James Whitehead Defender

Born in Nottingham James joined Ilkeston Town as a trainee in 1996 and is now Ilkeston’s longest serving player. Graduated to the first team and became a regular under John McGovern. A determined performer who is particularly dangerous when going forward and is an excellent crosser of the ball. James is a qualified coach running the Robins successful summer schools and is more than often seen surrounded by Ilkeston next generation of stars.

Mat McKenzie Defender

Another Sheffield born player Mat started his career at Dunkirk but was spotted by Grimsby Town. Spent two seasons with the Mariners before joining Ilkeston in 1999. Mat has struggled with a number of niggling injuries during his time at the New Manor ground but it looks as though he has overcome these difficulties and is now showing why he is such a highly rated performer.

Barry Woolley Defender

Eventually joined Ilkeston Town at the start of this season after a lengthy chase by John McGinlay who he played under at Gresley Rovers. A commanding and adaptable defender Barry started his career at Stoke City before joining Burton Albion. He made his name at Rocester and signed for Gresley Rovers in 2001 and aws alst season Players Player of the Year for the Moatmen.

Gavin Stone Defender

Another pre season signing Gavin joined Ilkeston Town from Bilston Town. Ironically born in Stone Gavin started out as a trainee at Tottenham Hotspurs. Had a brief spell at West Bromwich Albion before joining Stafford Rangers. A highly thought of defender who can play in the centre of defence or left back.

Ian Robinson Midfielder

Ian was born in Nottingham and joined Mansfield Town as a trainee. Made his debut for the Stags as a seventeen year old but was allowed to join Ilkeston after an initial loan spell. A forceful and powerful performer Ian soon attracted the attention of the bigger clubs and eventually he joined Hednesford Town who were then in the Conference. Returned to Ilkeston last season and towards the end of the campaign looked to have regained the form that made him such a favourite in his first spells at the club.

Steve Coates Midfielder

Steve is another recruit from Gresley Rovers for whom he played nearly 100 games and was voted Player of the Year in 2000-2001. A cultured performer he started out at Stoke City before turning out for Rothwell Town, VS Rugby, Leicester United and Hinckley United. Steve is a very highly rated player and was once an England Schoolboy International.

Emeka Nwdike Midfielder

Born in Camberwell Emeka started out as a trainee at Wolverhampton Wanderers. Joined Shrewsbury Town in 1996 before drifting into non league football with Grantham Town. Joined King’s Lynn and became a firm favourite at the Walks before joining Ilkeston Town for £5,000 in 2001. John McGovern’s only signing of note but an excellent investment. Emeka is renowned for his work rate and ferocious but fair tackling.

Scott Dundas Midfielder

Another excellent pre season signing Scott joined the Robins from Stafford Rangers. Made his name as a free scoring midfield star with Kidsgrove Athletic in the North West Counties League. Became a crowd favourite when he signed for Stafford Rangers and was voted Player of the Year in 2000-2001. Gives width to the midfield and is expected to make a significant contribution to Ilkeston’s drive for success.

Ryan Ford Midfielder

Born in Worksop Ryan started as a trainee at Manchester United. Left Old Trafford to join Notts County where he struggled with string of niggling injuries. Spent a short spell on loan at Gresley Rovers before joining Ilkeston towards the end of last season. Now his injury worries appear to be behind him Ryan is starting to show why he was such a highly rated prospect.

Anton Foster Midfielder

Anton is now in his third season at the New Manor Ground and has been on the fringes of the first team for most of that time. Has bags of skill and potential and will now be looking to cement a more regular palce in the Robins starting line up.

Tom Williams Midfielder

A highly promising youngster signed from Ripley Town at the start of this season. An enthusiastic performer Tom will be looking to prove he can succeed at this level.

Paul Kiely Forward

Paul is an exciting addition to the Ilkeston squad for this season. As a reputation as a goal getter and was last seasons top scorer in the Dr Martens League Premier Division. Signed from Stafford Rangers where he was voted Player of the Year he has also played and scored lots of goals at Newcastle Town, Eastwood Hanley, Kidsgrove Athletic and Leek Town. Paul is a combative striker who should be a firm crowd favourite at the New Manor ground.

Leon Kelly Forward

A big powerful forward Leon started his career at Massey Ferguson before joining Atherstone United. Came to the attention of Cambridge United but was released for financial reasons at the end of last season after having loan spells at Stalybridge Celtic, Nuneaton Borough and Dover Athletic. Leon is a very highly rated striker who could have a very bright future in the game.

David Holmes Forward

Born in Derby David started his career in the League at Scarborough. Moved to Gresley Rovers but signed for Gloucester City for £10,000 in March 1995 which was then a Dr Martens League record. Signed for Burton Albion in 1996 and initially joined Ilkeston Town on loan in 2000 but signed permanently last season. A wholehearted player who can also play in midfield.

Carl Wright Forward

Carl is now in his third season at Ilkeston and has been on the fringe of the first for much of that time. Looked to be breaking through last season and will be looking to gain a more regular place this season. Carl is a fast and tricky forward who has always troubled defenders.

Alan Jeffries Forward

Spent last season playing for the reserves and Heanor Town but is very highly thought off and could easily break into the first team before long.
