FULL TIME ILKESTON TOWN 5 ROSSENDALE UNITED 3
WhiteBallProject Man of the Match - Nigel Jemson - An excellent performance from a class act. Deft touches and excellent passes. Yes and two well taken goals. narrowly pipped Ryan Hindley who had an exceptional game by far his best this season.
Ilkeston played five across the middle and one up front and it was obvious the Rossendale did not know who to pick up. Both widemen had good games and Paul Smith excelled again as the most advanced central midfielder.
Manager Phil Stant biggest concern after the game apart from the growing injury list is the number of goals the defence is giving away unnecessarily. Rossendale should have been dead and buried at 5-1 but they kept on fighting and were buoyed by the hesitancy shown by the Ilkeston rearguard. Hopefully Steve Chettle will be available for the trip to Brigg Town which after today's result is a top of the table clash. Therefore Ilkeston face top of the table on Wednesday and then third in the table the following Saturday when they entertain Gresley Rovers in the FA Cup. If the Robins come through these games with positive results Ilkeston will have shown to the rest of the UniBond they are serious contenders and championship prospects.
On a final note it is a dangerous occupation to go criticizing referees on websites so to be on the safe side I would just like to say Mr Dale is the best referee I have ever seen at the New Manor Ground but I would lying so I leave you to make up your own mind!!!
