Ilkeston Town travelled to Spalding United with exactly the same line up as they used in their last game at Chorley.

The Robins started the game in explosive fashion when Mark Lever put them one up after only five minutes when he got on the end of a Paul Eshelby corner. Ilkeston looked likely to increase their lead in an hectic opening spell with Nigel Jemson being denied by Nigel Chittock in the Spalding goal. Chittock also did well when he saved bravely at the feet of Ryan Hindley. After 30 minutes the home keeper then had a lucky escape when he sliced a clearance and Steve Johnson's effort deflected off the keeper and looped over the bar.

Spalding finally got into the game when Ryan scored after a defensive mix up between Darren Knowles and Ross Turner  ten minutes after the break.

Both sides then had chances to get a winner but it was Ilkeston who got the all important when Craig Swinscoe (pictured above) pounced on a poor clearance to score his fourth goal of the season and secure three valuable points for the Robins.

WhiteBallProject Man of the Match - Craig Swinscoe - Craig is fast becoming a legend at the NMG and once again he is the all action hero.

Post Mortem

A fine battling performance from an Ilkeston Town side that is now benefiting from being a settled side. The Robins looked like they were going to settle for a 1-0 win after getting an early lead through Mark Lever. Eighty five minutes is a long time to defend a lead especially if you should really have added to that total. When Spalding did score Ilkeston responded magnificently and the winner from Craig Swinscoe was well deserved.

Swinscoe is now Ilkeston's top scorer and has more WhiteBallProject Man of the Match awards than any other player. He has come a long way from the player of just twelve months ago who was struggling to get a place in the side as a full back. Craig's improvement coincides with Phil Stant's appointment as manager and he is the most improved player at the club.
