Turner clears Swinscoe clears That pesky Bradshaw

Manager Phil Stant reverted to a 4-4-2 formstion for the visit of North Ferriby United with Justin Jenkins (pictured left) replacing the injured Paul Eshelby.

North Ferriby came with a good reputation and started dominating the possession but it was Ilkeston who took the lead after 12 minutes when a David Jervis cross was flicked on by Nigel Jemson for Ryan Hindley to drill the ball past the keeper. Two minutes the visitors came close to equalising but Ross Turner saw the shot flashed past the post.

Ilkeston continued to have the best chances and Justin Jenkins should have scored when he was put clear through but he tried to place his shot and it was easily saved by the keeper. Ryan Hindley also had a good chance but pulled his shot wide and then Nigel Jemson fed Paul Smith whose shot was straight at the keeper.

North Ferriby still looked dangerous and Michael Price was allowed to run the length of the field before putting in a powerful shot that was well saved by Ross Turner.

After the break Ilkeston had another golden chance when Ryan Hindley was clean through on goal but scuffed his shot which beat Paul Sharp in the visitors goal but was cleared off the line by Michael Price. Shortly afterwards Hindley and Justin Jenkins were replaced by Chris Thompson and Stuart Copnell. Ilkeston then seemed to lose their shape and North Ferriby started to dominate the game and it was no surprise when they equalised through the impressive Gary Bradshaw after 65 minutes.

Ilkeston however came back strongly in the last ten minutes when North Ferriby surprisingly seemed to have settled for a point. The best chance fell to Stuart Copnell who slipped the ball past the keeper only for Michael Price to clear off the line for the second time.

Post Mortem

Ilkeston Town will feel that after looking at the missed chances in the first half in particular that they should have won this game. However for a long period in the second half North Ferriby United looked much the stronger team and many fans were relieved that the Robins had finished the game with a share of the spoils.

In the first half Ilkeston were full of ideas with Nigel Jemson the focus of many of the best attacks and Ryan Hindley was lively on the wing. North Ferriby did have their chances but they were unfortunate to be only one down at half time. However in the second half the game changed when manager Phil Stant two substitutions. The decision to replace Ryan Hindley was a curious one because Hindley was a threat to North Ferriby every time he got the ball. Ilkeston then went into their shells with passes going astray and attacks not being supported by a tiring midfield. The Robins did stage a fightback in the last ten minutes when North Ferriby took their foot off the gas and started wind down the clock.

Manager Phil Stant now as a midweek without a game and he will hoping to get the players carrying knocks back to full fitness but he will also be taking stock and deciding whether he needs to make changes.
