Yellow Cards Paul Smith Debutant Allan Davies
Wodley had been very impressive going forward when they played the Robins in the first match of the season and they started this game in the same vein with Hackney coming close in the opening minutes. However it was end to end stuff from the start and Ilkeston started to string their passes together well and as a result they started to create scoring chances. Nigel Jemson curled a free kick around the wall after 12 minutes but his attempt just went wide. Minutes later Dempsey cleared off the line for the home side. Then Paul Smith and an excellent chance to score but hit his shot against the bar. Ross Turner was then called into action to make a save from MacDonald as the impressive Hackney tormented the Ilkeston rearguard. After the break Woodley Sports started to get the upper hand and took the lead after 56 minutes when substitute Morrison pounced on a mistake by Craig Swinscoe to put Woodley 1-0 up. Ilkeston were now starting to regret their missed chances in the first half but they continued to push forward looking for an eqaliser. Justin Jenkins came closest when his overhead kick went over the bar. The game was however put beyond Ilkeston's reach when Morrison scored his and Woodley's second after David Jervis was bundled off the bar and Morrison picked up the loose ball and slot it past Turner.

One of the reasons for this is that Woodley Sports are a good side. They showed this on the opening day of the season when they took a two goal at the New Manor Ground before running out of steam and losing 3-2. The second reason was that the Robin's once again failed to convert the numerous chances they created particularly in the first half.
Allan Davies made a competent debut on the right hand side of midfield before being substituted and the feeling around the club at the moment is that Allan will be the first of a number of new faces who will be bought on to strengthen Ilkeston's challenge at the top of the league.
Next week the Robins have another tough test when they take on local rivals Gresley Rovers a team who have already beat Ilkeston convincingly this season in the FA Cup.
