Ilkeston Town manager Phil Stant returned to a 4-4-2 formation for the visit of North Wales side Colwyn Bay. Stuart Copnell (pictured left) replaced Liam Walshe who is still struggling with a groin injury.

The Robins started the game on a run of two consecutive defeats and were determined to get their promotion challenge back on track. After an even opening few minutes however it was the visitors who had the first chance when McIlvogue had an opening but shot over the bar.

Ilkeston broke the deadlock after 26 minutes when Stuart Copnell was bought down in the box. After a brief period of negotiation with Nigel Jemson, Ryan Hindley stepped up and converted the spot kick. Eleven minutes later Hindley should have put the Robins 2-0 up when he was set up by a great cross from Paul Smith. Unfortunately he managed to put the ball over the bar from a few yards out. Ilkeston were on top but still managed to waste another golden opportunity when Stuart Copnell put through Chris Adam. The young winger had too much time to think what he was going to do and ended up shooting tamely straight at the keeper.

Colwyn Bay opened brightly after the break and Calum Davies beat the Ilkeston off side only to be foiled by an excellent last ditch tackle by Mark Clifford.

After 53 minutes Ilkeston finally got the second goal that there play deserved. Chris Adam fed Stuart Copnell and his powerful shot thundered into the top corner. Colwyn Bay were now a well beaten side and Hindley got his second and the Robins third goal when Nigel Jemson flicked the ball on for Chris Adam who coolly squared the ball for Hindley to score.

Three minutes into injury time Nigel Jemson was bought down and he got up and scored with a sweetly taken free kick to seal a very satisfying victory for Ilkeston Town

Post Mortem

Most fans agree that this performance by Ilkeston Town was probably not as good as the one against AFC Telford. It must be said that AFC Telford are a better side than Colwyn Bay but the Robins are again showing that they can raise their game to match the best teams in the UniBond Division One.

It is also good to see Ilkeston scoring more freely as there was a spell when the goals had dried up. Ryan Hindley is now able to add an end product to his exciting wing play and Stuart Copnell has made his mark in recent games. Nigel Jemson will be glad he had ended his own personal goal drought and will now be looking to contribute regularly in that department.

Since Chris Adam has been introduced to the team the side has a better balance with two natural wingers. Allan Davies looks much more comfortable at right back and Richard Lucas is doing a manful job of filling in for David Jervis. Within the present formation Phil Stant as the option of playing Nigel Jemson up front on his own or teaming him up with the more energetic and sprightly Stuart Copnell.

Whatever options the management team plump for on Saturday a win will see them go back to the top of the table but most of all the psychological fillip of an away win at North Ferriby United would be immeasurable.
