Ilkeston
got the perfect start when on six minutes Stuart
Copnell slipped the ball through for Nigel
Jemson to score woth a low drive. Four minutes later the Robins
almost increased their lead when Jemson
touched hid freekick to Mark
Clifford whose thunderous glanced the post and went wide. Ilkeston
were dominating the game and Copnell
missed an excellent chance when he was put through by Clifford.
Mossley
had their first chance of the game when Ross
Turner mis-kicked a through ball but the ball was scrambled away to
safety and just before half time Downey got in a good shooting position
but put his effort over the bar. Mossley
recovered their composure after the break and started to get back into
the game and Peterson had a shot which struck the foot of the post.
Minutes later the Mossley winger Morning had an excellent shot which
clipped the junction the post and bar. In
an end to end half Jemson
then missed from eight yards after getting on the end of a low right
wing cross.On the hour Craig
Swinscoe came close with a header from a Ryan
Hindley free kick. The
game was sealed on 74 minutes when Copnell
hooked the ball over his head to put Jemson
clear. He rounded the keeper and coolly shot into the roof of the
net to give the Robins the cushion of a two goal lead. Mossley
now looked a defeated side but still were able to force Turner
into making one more good save. However the Robins comfortably played
out the remaining time to secure an excellent win and three valuable
points.
WhiteBallProject Man of the Match - Nigel Jemson (pictured below) – Scored both goals and had an all round terrific game.
Mossley are a good side and looked good going forward but the Robins had too many players who are starting to play at the top of their form. Players who have in the past been criticised like Ross Turner and Nigel Jemson had excellent games and new signing Craig Gaunt had an impressive debut at the heart of the defence.
Ilkeston will have enjoyed the victory more than the very heavy pitch and many Robins away fans were impressed by the vociferous Mossley vocal support. Ilkeston themselves could do with that kind of backing when they entertain Kendal Town who have just started winning games and have climbed up to sixth in the table. The Robins have however maintained their lead at the top of the table and were helped by defeats for rivals Gresley Rovers and Willenhall Town.
