The Robins started strongly and after only seven minutes Stuart Copnell found Mick Goddard whose shot found the side netting. Minutes later Copnell had a shot himself from twenty yards but his effort flew just wide. Ilkeston were dominating the early stages and it was no surprise when they took the lead after 14 minutes. Ossett struggled to clear a corner and the ball fell to Steve Chettle (pictured left) who controlled the ball and struck a great shot past Carney.
Ossett tried to gat back into the game but fell further behind after 39 minutes when Mark Clifford fed Chris Dolby who beat his full back, took he ball to the bye line and then slid it back for Nigel Jemson to score from ten yards.
After the break Ilkeston continued to pour forward but it was Ossett who got the first goal of the half with their first shot on goal in the game. Danny Toronczak latched on to a long ball and forced the ball home from six yards out. The Robins restored their two goal cushion on 66 minutes when Goddard broke clear rounded the keeper and was bought down by Rowden. Jemson stepped and calmy stroked home the resulting spot kick.
Despite Ossett showing more enterprise Ilkeston managed to increase their lead after 77 minutes when substitute Craig Swinscoe fed Jemson and his shot was partly blocked by the keeper only for Goddard to follow up and force the ball home to give the Robins a three goal lead.

It is a shame that Ilkeston seem to produce their best performance away from home but maybe that is more to do with opposition than Ilkeston themselves. many teams come to the New Manor Ground and will happily settle for a point and therefore defend in depth. Some teams have started off with this tactic and have then caught Ilkeston unawares and left with all three points. It is also true that Ilkeston's travelling support get behind their team more than the larger home following who have always been difficult to please.
The win at Ossett however was an excellent performance and is encouraging because they are going to need more of the same as North Ferriby and Willenhall seem to have struck a rich vein of form. The games are going to come thick and fast and the squad are going to be stretched and will have to stick together and work hard for each other. Today's win shows that that spirit is there!
