Ilkeston started the game well and should have gone ahead in the first ten minutes but both chances were squandered. It was however the visitors who got the opening goal when Stuart Ainsley lobbed the ball over the advancing Ross Turner after 18 minutes.
Two minutes later Ilkeston were back on level terms when Nigel Jemson (pictured left) headed home an excellent Ryan Hindley cross.
In the second half Ilkeston went in search of a winner and on 50 minutes David Holmes shot over after getting in a good position. Hindley was causing Brigg serious problems down the right and Jemson should have scored when he got on the end of an excellent Hindley cross after 61 minutes. Jemson the narrowly failed to get on the end of a teasing Gareth Holmes cross. A minute later Turner collided with Steve Chettle and the ex Forest was unable to continue and seconds later Darren Knowles was also receiving attention. The resulting reshuffle unsettled the Robins and Brigg started to pose more of a threat and Ainsley lobbed the ball over after he had got into good position.
With fifteen minutes Manager Phil Stant bought on out of favour striker Justin Jenkins for Mick Goddard. Before Jenkins could get into the game there was nine minute break whilst a linesman received attention eventually being replaced by a volunteer official in the crowd. On 83 minutes Jenkins made his mark when he hooked a ball back from the bye line into the path of Ryan Hindley who thundered the ball home off the bar and into the back of the net.
Brigg responded well and Roach hit a post with a few minutes remaining. Just as Ilkeston thought they had weathered the storm Lee Cochrane got his head to corner to force the ball home and give Brigg a share of the points.
WhiteBallProject Man of the Match - Darren Knowles (pictured below) – A very solid performance and back to his best..
Watching the Robins has always been a bit of a roller coaster ride but this season one of the most nerve jangling I can remember. against Colwyn Ilkeston did not play well at all and won. Against Brigg they looked much stronger but came away with only one point.
Once again Ilkeston look for a confidence boosting performance to give them that final promotion kick. |
