Ilkeston
Town welcomed back Paul Smith
to replace the departed Ryan
Hindley as the travelled north to face league leaders North
Ferriby United. The Robins have never beaten North Ferriby and did
not like changing this when the prolific Gary Bradshaw opened the
scoring with his 13th goal of the season after 22
minutes. He beat three Ilkeston defenders and beat Ben
Scott with a 20 yard drive.
The
Robins were being put under tremendous pressure and Wainman and
Hockless could and maybe should have extended the home sides lead.
After
the interval North Ferriby continued to outplay Ilkeston Wainman
again missed a good chance after being set up by Bradshaw. It was no
surprise when North Ferriby eventually went 2-0 up after Waltham
scored with a header at the far post from a corner.
Ilkeston
were given a glimmer of hope on 71 minutes when an excellent cross
from Mick Goddard was
headed home by Justin Jenkins.
The Robins could have even salvaged an undeserved point as North
Ferriby tired in the closing minutes.
WhiteBallProject
Man of the Match – Justin Jenkins – Scored the goal and worked the whole game.
North
Ferriby were a good side and far too good for Ilkeston. They possess
one of the best strikers in the league and even with their meagre
resources they have managed to develop a team spirit which is
pushing them on to success after success. Last season Ilkeston and
North Ferriby were neck and neck at the top of the UniBond Division
one but on the evidence of tonight's performance they mat not so
close this campaign. |
