Ilkeston
Town travelled to Solihull Borough hoping to kick start and embark
on profitable and moral boosting FA Cup run. Gareth Holmes
came back from a groin strain to replace the injured Scott
Bonsall and Gary Townsend and Chris Adam were
bought in to boost the Robins attacking options.
Solihull
made a lively start to the game and were denied a penalty when
Marsden collided with Ben Scott. After 11 minutes Scott
was called on to come out of his box to clear a Solihull attack but
was booked as a result for a foul on Marsden. the home side had a
goal dissalowed after 18 minutes when Grady found the net with a
fine header but the linesman spotted an earlier infringement.
Solihull
continued to look the better side as the half progressed and
Ilkeston had Townsend booked on 33 minutes and the unlucky David
Jervis limped off injured after 45 minutes.
After
the break the Robins came close to scoring when Townsend nearly
found the target with a fine volley. Solihull however were starting
to look dangerous and it was no surprise whe they took the lead
after 55 minutes. a dangerous corner was toched on to the corss bar
by wellington and desoite the fact that Scott appeared to save
therebound the linesman signalled that it had crossed the line.
Five
minutes solihull added a second when Petty broke free and slid the
ball past Scott. On 66 minutes Petty scored the goal of the
game when he waltzed through a static Robins defence and chipped
Scott.
With
the game safe Solihull could have relaxed but on 80 minutes they
came close again when Scott was forced to amke a good save.

Man of the Match – Gareth
Holmes – Despite the poor team performance he kept running the whole game.
The
seasons lowest ebb so far! Ilkeston looked ragged in the second half
and if they do not have a giant slice of luck or significant changes
in personnel this season could turn out to be one of continuous
struggle. Manager Phil Stant will be stepping up his search
to sign one or even two strikers to re ignite the Robins season. For
many people at Ilkeston Town Tuesday's game against Wakefield -
Emley is fast becoming a very important fixture and one the Robins
must win. |
