Ilkeston
Town travelled to the ground of Prescot Cables to play Runcorn FC
Halton looking to gain their first away win of the season.
Manager
Nigel Jemson promotedl Mick Goddard after Oliver
Ryan was recalled by Lincoln City and Craig Swinscoe came
in for David Jervis.
Ilkeston
started brightly and had the best of the opening exchanges. John
Burns was guilty of missing a particularly good chance to put
the Robins ahead.
The
Robins were made to rue their missed chances on 30 minutes when
Whalley gave the home side the lead. Flood took a free kick which
Whalley managed to hook in from 12 yards out.
To
add insult to injury Ilkeston were awarded a penalty on 42 minutes
when Hallcroft bought down Goddard. The keeper was only
booked and then he saved Goddard's spot kick.
After
the break Ilkeston made changes bringing on Manager Jemson
and Mark Clifford. However the Robins went further behind on
65 minutes when after a mix up between Craig Gaunt and Ross
Turner the ball was sliced in to the path of Furlong who made no
mistake with his shot on goal.
Ilkeston
were given some hope when Colin Hoyle scored on 77 minutes
after getting on the end of a Smith corner. The Robins were
unable to get an equaliser and in fact in the closing stages of the
game it was Runcorn who looked the team most likely to score.

Man of the Match
- Ryan Ludlam - Had an ordinary game but still better than
the rest of the team.
Ilkeston
Town's away day misery continues with this defeat but was more
galling was the fact that Runcorn are probably the poorest side that
the Robins have faced this season.
The
overall performance was so poor that many of the travelling
supporters handed their Man of the Match forms in blank because the
question who played well was too difficult to answer. In the end
their decision not to select a Man of the Match was justified
because the prize of a crate of ale was stolen by a local Prescot
scally.
The
reality is now that Ilkeston are sinking into a relegation crisis.
They cannot win away and do not seem be able to sign players to
freshen up the squad. At the moment we are displaying all the signs
of a team destined for relegation and remember next season we will
be back in the Southern League if relegated.
Ilkeston
play Leek Town in the league Challenge Cup but it fades into
insignificance compared with the league game against Bradford Park
Avenue next week which Ilkeston must win.
