Ilkeston
Town made the short journey to their Erewash neighbours with a much changed
side from that that beat Bradford Park Avenue on Saturday. Darren
Knowles, Michael Pashley, Joel Hodgkinson, Gary Townsend and Chris
Adam came in for Paul Smith, Mark Clifford, Nigel Jemson,
Gareth Holmes and Colin Hoyle. Long Eaton included ex Robin Jamie
Eaton in their line up.
The
Robins started the game under pressure from a lively Long Eaton
attack and Ben Scott was called on to make a number of fine
saves to keep Ilkeston in the game. At the other end Whalin in the
Long Eaton goal also had to be alert to keep Ilkeston at bay and
twice he denied Hodgkinson.
Ilkeston
finally made the breakthrough on 48 minutes when Adam scored
from a free kick after substitute Ryan Ludlam had been fouled
on the edge of the box.
The
lead lasted thirteen minutes before Ejiofor took advantage of
hesitancy in the Robins rearguard to equalise for Long Eaton.
The
home side lost Tony Tansley who was sent off for a second bookable
offence after 84 minutes and Ilkeston went down to ten men when John
Burns hobbled off with a pulled hamstring afte the three subs
had already been used.
Two
tired sides saw the game through extra time without scoring but in
the shoot out Ludlam, Gary Townsend, Adam and Hoyle
scored whilst Long Eaton could only reply through keeper Whalin.
Hoyle scored the wining penalty but Scott made the winning
saves to see Ilkeston win 4-1 on penalties therefore progressing
hrough to the semi final of the Derbyshire Senior Cup.

Man of the Match - Ben Scott -
Fine saves first half and saves in the penalty shoot out just pipped
Joel Hodgkinson.
Another
late night shoot out sees the Robins through to the semi finals and
their most realistic chance of winning silver ware this season.
Despite making hard work of the victory this will be seen as a good
chance for some of the fringe players to show what they can do. Joel
Hodgkinson in particular had another fine game adn is proving to
be quite a prospect. The star of the show was yet again Ben Scott
and Ilkeston will be glad that he is back and fully fit.
