Ilkeston
Town
recalled Adam Muller and Ryan Ludlam to the starting
line up and gave a debut to new signing Lee Soar who joined
the Robins this week from
Cambridge
City
.
Leek
Town
started the
game brightly and penned Ilkeston back into their own half and it
ten minutes before Ilkeston posed a serious threat to the home sides
goal. Adam Muller got on the end of a fine Ludlam free
kick and forced an excellent save from Wilkes. One minute later
Muller was the instigator again as he beat the Leek defence and only
just failed to set up Martin Carruthers.
Ilkeston
finally took the lead after 13 minutes when Muller was fouled
in the box. The on loan striker picked himself and calmly sent
Wilkes the wrong way with his spot kick.
Leek
rallied and Ludlam had to be on his toes twice in succession
to protect Ilkeston’s lead the second being a fine clearance off
the line.
After
the break Leek suffered a crucial set back when Danlyk was sent off
after an off the ball incident with Gareth Holmes. The game
then started to get a bit ugly as tempers became frayed. Sutton and
Brown were booked and so was substitute Mick Goddard who had
only been on the field a few seconds.
Ilkeston
capitalised on their numerical advantage after 70 minutes when Goddard
turned inside Sutton before shooting past the despairing dive of
Wilkes from the edge of the box.
Leek
were now starting to get really stretched and six minutes from Mark
Clifford made it three when Muller cleverly set him up
from ten yards out. The goal sealed Ilkeston’s first away victory
of the season and secured three invaluable points in their fight
against relegation.
WhiteBallProject
Man of the Match – Adam Muller
– Scored the opener and a constant threat creating numerous
chances for Ilkeston and narrowly pipped debutant Lee Soar.
At
last Ilkeston broke their away day hoodoo and collected three points
away from the New Manor Ground. The result will be a big confidence
booster particularly as it was against a fellow struggler at the
bottom. Leek must now be planning for life in a lower division.
Ilkeston
also got some good fortune in this game as Leek dominated much of
the first half. The luck came in the form of Danlyk's sending off
after 48 minutes. The Leek captain totally lost his head and elbowed
Holmes in the face. Sutton was lucky not to follow his captain
minutes for an ugly challenge again on Holmes minutes later. Down to
ten men Leek were always up against it and Ilkeston capitalised as
they tired and got stretched towards the end.
The
management team will also be particularly pleased with the form
shown by newcomers Muller and Soar and more new faces
possibly on the way the prospects at Ilkeston look brighter than
they have for some time.
