ILSON FALL TO FOURTH DEFEAT IN A ROW

Ex Robin Justin Jackson has been released by Doncaster Rovers and has joined Accrington Stanley. Justin was believed to be on £2,000 a week and has had to take a pay cut to join Conference new boys Accrington. Another ex Robin in the news was Forest Green Rovers captain Martin Foster who was thumped by one of his own players after Foster criticised him for giving away a penalty. The miscreant was sent off and sacked by Forest Green. Foster was also disciplined.

LOVE'S NIGHTMARE ENDS UNBEATEN LEAGUE RUN

7th October  2003

Ilkeston Town's unbeaten run in the league went up in smoke when after a series of blunders by keeper Andy Love they found themselves 3-0 down after 21 minutes at Bromsgrove Rovers. Ilkeston never fully recovered and were unable to register a consolation goal.

SEASIDERS SPOIL TROPHY DREAM

4th October  2003

Ilkeston Towns hope's of making progress were shattered as they lost their second cup game in a week. Bridlington Town proved too strong for a weakened Robins side despite a fightback in the second half which almost saw Ilkeston gain a replay and a second attempt. Lowestoft Town away would have been the next FA Cup date had we beat Cambridge last week. Never mind Alfreton Town lost again.

The club are hoping that Alex Callery will be back next week despite turning out for WorksopTown at the weekend. Russell Cooke will be hoping to have shaken off his flu bug but Marc Laws has another week of his two week suspension to serve.

Ex Robins in the news include Simon Brown who went in goal for Hucknall Town after their regular keeper Nelson was red carded. Unfortunately he scored an own goal in the last minute to deny Hucknall three points. Barry Woolley returned for Worcester City and came on as sub. Mark Quayle scored for Chester and Mark Clifford scored for Nuneaton Borough.

On Tuesday night Ilkeston Town face Bromsgrove Rovers in re-arranged game.

IT'S "CONCENTRATING ON THE LEAGUE" TIME

27th September  2003

Ilkeston Town's chances of FA Cup when they were beaten by Premier Division Cambridge City after taking the lead through Alex Callery. The Robins eventually lost 3-1 due to a youthful Cambridge side. Ilkeston entertain Bridlington Town next Saturday in the FA Trophy so perhaps the league can wait for another few days.

hock of the day came when Gedling Town beat the mighty Alfreton Town 1-0. Shame!

Marc Laws suspension has been shortened to two weeks on appeal and as you will have already guessed Alex Callery has returned from Worksop Town to resume his loan spell at the New Manor Ground.

Congratulations must go to Andy Love who today made his 100th appearance for Ilkeston Town. Well done Andy!!

Mark Nangle will also be available next week as he will have returned from his honeymoon.

IT'S THE LATE LATE SHOW FOR ILSON

23rd September  2003

Ilkeston Town recorded their most impressive result of the season when they beat top of the table Sutton Coldfgield Town. In an exciting end to end game Sutton took the lead in 13 minutes but Ilkeston fought back and won through goals  from Marc Laws and Chris Thompson.

TAUNTON WIN MOVES ILSON UP TO FOURTH OR IS IT THIRD?

20th September  2003

Ilkeston Town made their longest journey of the season but came back with all three points after Chris Thompson scored a brilliant match winner seven minutes from time. The win moves the Robins up to fourth place three points behind leaders Sutton Coldfield Town who Ilkeston face on Tuesday night. However if Atherstone are officially expelled from the League Redditch will lose three points and the Robins will move up to third place.

Ilkeston Town are appealing against the draconian five week ban imposed on Marc Laws who was sent off in a reserve game earlier this season. Alex Callery has been recalled by Worksop and Mark Nangle will miss the next two games because he is on his honeymoon.

2-0 WIN SECURES TIE AGAINST CAMBRIDGE CITY

13th September  2003

Ilkeston Town beat Long Eaton United 2-0 on a hot and dusty pitch to secure a tie against Cambridge City away in the next round. Chris Thomson and Chris Freestone got the goals which settled the tie. Ben Simms made his debut coming in for Craig Swinscoe who has a broken ankle. Mark Nangle reappeared after his suspension and looks to have committed his future to Ilkeston Town. Unfortunately for the Robins they may be without the in form Marc Laws who is suspended for five weeks after being sent off playing for the reserves.

Ex Robins in the news include Glenn Kirkwood who scored two for Burton Albion and James Rowe who scored yet again for Histon. James played a number of games for Ilkeston whilst studying at Nottingham University. Jason Bowler has also turned up playing for East Anglian side Flackwell Heath. More recent departures in the news include Leon Kelly who scored for Worcester City and Barry Woolley who has sustained a bad injury and could be out for four months. Micheal Sissons has signed for Matlock Town and the Gladiators have also secured the signature of Craig Hopkins.

FREESTONE DOUBLE SEALS IT FOR ROBINS

6th September  2003

Ilkeston Town moved up to fifth place after defeating Mangotsfield United 4-2. Chris Freestone bagged a brace and Marc Laws and Alex Callery got one a piece. The game also saw the return of Aaron O'Connor who had been training with Nuneaton Borough earlier this season.

ILSON EARN TIE AGAINST LONG EATON UNITED

3rd September  2003

Inspired by an excellent performance by Marc Laws Ilkeston Town overcame Rocester 3-1 in their FA Cup replay at the New Manor ground. The Robins will in the next round play now play Long Eaton United who defeated Norton United 2-0 in their own replay on Wednesday night.

The strength of Ilkeston Towns squad was emphasized on Wednesday night when Charlie Bishop, Phil Towle and Paul Reece had to turn out for the reserves in their game against Pinxton. Paul Reece did not play in goal however and those fans who say he bears a uncanny resemblance to Diego Maradona will be starting to get really suspicious. A WhiteBallProject correspondent also said Charlie Bishop was by far the best player on the pitch.

THOMMO EARNS ROBINS REPLAY

30th August  2003

Ilkeston Town stared early FA Cup defeat in the face but escaped at the death as Chris Thompson equalised in the last minute. The replay is on Tuesday and is a 7.45 kick off not 7.30 as reported in some papers. Victory will earn the Robins a tie against either Long Eaton United or Norton United who also drew on Saturday.

A report and summary of the recent Fans Forum will appear later this week.

5-1 TO ILSON AS FREESTONE BAGS HAT TRICK

25th August  2003

Ilkeston Town put the memory od the 6-0 drubbing at the hands of Redditch United with an excellent 5-1 defeat of local rivals Shepshed Dynamo. The victory moved Ilkeston Town up to eighth in the table and closer to that important top six place. Chris Freestone was the star of the show with an impressive hat trick and we believe this could be the first Ilkeston hat trick in the league since Christian Moore in 1999. Hopefully fans will be able to dust down their records and check who was the last player to score three in a league match at the New Manor Ground.

23rd August  2003

Ilkeston Town today gained their first win of the season against Evesham United and extended their unbeaten away record to seven games. Chris Thompson gave Ilkeston the lead in the first minute but Evesham fought back and Ilkeston were very fortunate to hang on to all three points.

KICK OFF CHANGE AND TWO NEW SIGNINGS

21st August  2003

Ilkeston's game at home to Shepshed on Bank Holiday Monday will now kick off at 7.30pm instead of 3pm. Shepshed have objected to the afternoon kick off and under league they have a right to do so as the game is classed as a midweek fixture.

The Robins have also announced the signing of two more players. Alfa Gray who has been playing for the reserves and Russell Cooke formerly of Hucknall town have been added to the Ilkeston squad.

HEGGS GOES AND ILSON DRAW AT HALESOWEN

19th August  2003

After a display of poor self discipline in Saturday defeat against Redditch United Carl Heggs has been sacked as assistant player  manager of Ilkeston Town Football Club. It is believed Phil Towle will take his place.

Ilkeston gained a creditable 2-2 draw against Halesowen Town. Mark Nangle gave Ilkeston the lead but Mark Hallam equalised for the home side. Chris Freestone put Ilkeston 2-1 but Halesowen snatched a late equaliser with a Nick Ashby penalty five minutes from full time.

ILSON STUFFED AFTER HEGGS DISMISSAL

16th August  2003

Ilkeston Town make their worst ever start to a season by losing 6-0 at home to Redditch United. The visitors were known to be one of the stronger sides in the Dr Martens League Western Division and have had a very successful pre season. However Ilkeston predictably made life very difficult for themselves when Assistant Manager Carl Heggs was dismissed after a blatant elbow on Matthew Hall after 24 minutes. Hall proved to be the Robins main tormentor as Redditch totally outclassed the hapless home side.

On a positive note the attendance of 379 was the biggest gate in the Western Division.

EX ROBINS IN THE NEWS

17th August  2003

Welsh side TNS lost 5-0 to Manchester City in the EUFA Cup and ex Robin Gerard Doherty was in goal for TNS. Gerard had a spell on loan with  Ilkeston a few seasons back when he was a trainee with Derby County.

Ex captain Matt McKenzie has signed for Arnold Town but was injured early on in his debut game. Another Arnold recruit is Ashley Murdock. Alfreton Town included five ex Robins in their opening fixture with Altrincham. Ian Robinson, Emeka Nwadike, John Knapper, Chris Bettney and Tony Hemmings are all now entertaining the North Street faithful.

James Whitehead and Scott Huckerby turned out for Eastwood Town who beat Harrogate RA 3-0.

Ex reserve team boss Morris Samuels made his debut for Borrowash Victoria and Justin O'Reilly is back at Mickleover Sports. And finally Dion Evans, Anton Foster and Nick Kennerdale are playing for Gedling Town.

INITIAL SQUAD LIST RELEASED

12th August  2003

Ilkeston Town have after a series of pre season games released a list of players who have signed so far. Manager Charlie Bishop will be hoping to add a number of further signings before Saturdays Dr Martens League Western Division opener against Redditch United. Chris Freestone is thought to be still on holiday and there was some talk of Carl Heggs being suspended. The biggest surprise was the inclusion of ex Robin keeper Paul Reece. Paul played for Grimsby, Oxford United and Notts County and although only thirty four he is expected to be used mainly in a coaching capacity.

Further signings are expected to be announced and WhiteBallProject expects them to be Alex Callery, Micheal Sisson, Craig Swinscoe and Mark Laws.

FA RESTRUCTURING! WHATS IN IT FOR ILSON?

12th August  2003

Details of the FA's restructuring plan for non league football have been released and if Ilkeston Town want to have a chance of taking in the new Conference Division Two they must finish as champions of the Western Division so that they can enter a play off competition for the spare places in the new league. Tony Kempster has produced an excellent analysis of the situation so to find out more click here.
