27th July  2004

Ilkeston Town were narrowly beaten by Northern Conference Alfreton Town 3-2 at the Impact Arena. Chris Freestone gave Ilkeston the lead but Mick Goddard hit back for Alfreton with two well taken goals. Paul Eshelby got the Robins back into the game but Peter Duffield scored the winner for the home side after only 32 minutes.

Ilkeston Town travelled to Long Eaton United on Tuesday night and lost 4-2 with Chris Freestone getting both the goals. One of the Long Eaton United goals was scored by ex Robin Jamie Eaton. Assistant manager Ernie Oliver (pictured left) will be hoping to whip the players into shape before they visit Worksop Town this coming Saturday.

Ilkeston's next fixture is away to Alfreton Town next Saturday at the newly christened Impact Arena. Perhaps we should be thinking of a new name for the NMG. Answers on the forum please!

Ilkeston Town new home and away kits are now available at the club shop priced at £34.50 for adults and £25 for kids. The club did a very brisk trade on Saturday obviously buoyed by the fact the old shirts are being sold off at a fiver a piece.

ILKESTON START WELL IN FREINDLIES

16th July  2004

Ilkeston Town got off to a winning start in their two pre season freindlies this week. On Tuesday they beat a strong Lincoln City side 2-1 with goals from Stuart Copnell (pictured left) and Chris Thompson. On Wednesday a mainly reserve side defeated Teversal 2-0. New faces against Lincoln City included goalscorer Stuart Copnell and substitutes Pascall Formann and Gerard Hather. Copnell has played for Dinnington Town, Garforth Town and more recently Stocksbridge Park Steels and Formann was at Nottingham Forest last season.

It would appear that Aaron O'Connor has signed for Gresley Rovers but reports that Mark Lever have signed for North Ferriby may be a bit premature as he is presently on holiday. The club will be discussing Mark's future when he returns.

Finally congratulations go to Craig from the Club Shop who has presently training with the first team and has been sharing his pain on the forum. Well done you daft bugger!

"Up until I was 28, i used to play football 4 times a week, I weighed 11.5 - 12 stones & was very fit. I then injured my knee very badly & had to stop playing. that was 5.5 years ago. other than playing in goal for the supporters v ilson, I haven`t played sport of any kind (unless you class hurling abuse at opposition goalies a sport!) even though the weight has crept up to 15.5 stones then back to 15, I work as a joiner & glazier, which is quite a physical job, so I thought I was fairly fit. WRONG!! I have just finished my 1st training session with the 1st team, which Phil (Stant) said " is just a gentle warm down, because they played Tuesday & Wednesday". I started off not too bad, several laps of the pitch, alternating, jogging, walking, running at 50% & 75%, stopping every lap & a half to stretch off, then it was onto quick feet work through cones, followed by a sprint of 20 yards, this was done 7 or 8 times. by now, I was dripping with sweat, & huffing & puffing quite a bit. this was again followed by stretches. then it was back to jogging round the pitch, alternating as we did before, this was to go on for 10 mins, I managed to keep up with them for 2.5 laps & I was knackered, while they alternated between walking, jogging, & running at 50% & 75%, I alternated between walking & jogging. after getting a drink & stretching off, we were split into 2 teams of 7, Phil then threw coloured discs into an area of around 30 square meters, Phil would then shout out 1 or 2 colours, & you had to race 1 on 1 with the other team to collect them & get back to your team. I think we lost overall, but I beat Steve Chettle 3 times out of 3  .
At the moment i don`t feel to bad, but we`ll see how I feel in the morning.
Phil says it will be harder on Tuesday, I`m not sure if I`m looking forward to it or not!!!"

Craig please report back on Wednesday!!
