WOODLEY WIN AGAIN 

30th October  2004

 

Ilkeston Town found Woodley Sports again too hot to handle as they defeated the Robins for the second time this season. Simon Hackney gave the home side the lead after 37minutes and although Ilkeston got back into the game in the second half the goal proved to be the winner.

SPALDING DROOP AS BREWER SWOOPS

Ilkeston Town progressed to the next stage of the UniBond League Cup with a 2-1 victory at Spalding United. Manager Phil Stant fielded an experimental line up but they did not disappoint. Ilkeston took the lead on 41 minutes through Marc Laws (pictured left) who scored a hat trick on his debut on loan at Teversal last week. Spalding equalised on 51 minutes through Sowerby but 17 year old Ricky Brewer a fine display by snatching the winner with seven minutes remaining.

Ilkeston Town are next in action when they travel to Woodley Sports on 30th October for a 3.00pm kick off. the Robins have already suffered a reverse at Woodley this season in the FA Trophy and will be looking for revenge.

 

DYNAMO RYAN'S EARLY STRIKE SINKS SHEPSHED

23rd October  2004

 

Despite the alternative attraction of the Ilkeston Fair (pictured left from the Clocktower Stand) a healthy crowd of 371 turned to see Ilkeston Town beat Shepshed Dynamo 3-0 with two goals from Ryan Hindley and a first for the club from Stuart Copnell. The win puts Ilkeston Town to within a point of leaders North Ferriby with three games in hand.

Ilkeston Town travel to Spalding United on Tuesday 26th October to play in a League Cup tie.

 

In the Derbyshire Senior Cup Ilkeston have drawn at home to Shirebrook Town of the Northern Counties East League in the Second Round on Tuesday 23rd November. The game against Brigg Town will now be rearranged.

 

UNBEATEN RUN ENDED BY SAXBY SAVES

16th October  2004

 

Ilkeston Town's unbeaten run in the league came to an end when they were defeated 1-0 by local rivals Gresley Rovers. Ashley Dodds scored the winning goal on the stroke of half time. The defeayt also means the Robins now drop to second in the league table behind North Ferriby United.

Ilkeston Town have signed Mark Clifford from Nuneaton Borough. Mark is now in his fourth spell at the club. Ex Notts County player Paul Riley has also signed. Paul played 18 games for the Magpies before being released last season and he has also played for Alfreton Town. 

 

Ilkeston Town travel to Osset Albion on Wednesday 20th October hoping to get back to winning ways.

 

ILSON SUNK BY SUPER SUB

Ilkeston Town were dumped out of the FA Trophy by Woodley Sports. Substitute Morrison scored both goals in the second half. The Stockport based side go on to face Barrow in the next round.

The Robins signed Allan Davies from Worcester City last week. A vastly experienced performer Allan started his career as a trainee at Manchester City but then spent ten years at Burton Albion. Reports that the club have signed Dan Robinson might be a bit premature as he was on the bench for Burton Albion on Saturday.

 

Ex Robins in the news include Aaron O'Connor who scored yet again for Gresley to make six goals in seven games for the moatmen. Dean Fearon made his debut for Belper Town in their 3-0 win over Roseendale United. Ilkeston Town legend Dave Taylor has announced his retirement from football due to an achiles heel injury. Lastly but not least John Humphries side Radcliffe Olympic were fined £250 after their match against Kiveton Park was curtailed after an altercation between John Humphries wife Gail and the wife of Kiveton Park's manager Margeret Holmes. The actual nature of the altercation is unknown but it was severe enough for the Kiveton Park side to refuse to carry on.

 

Ilkeston Town entertain Gresley Rovers at the New Manor Ground on Saturday 16th October 3.00pm kick off. They however are not playing Willenhall in mid week as reported in the national press.

 

FIVE POINTS CLEAR AT THE TOP

2nd October  2004

 

Ilkeston Town maintained their five points lead at the top of the UniBond Division table despite only drawing against North Ferriby 1-1 at the New Manor Ground. Ryan Hindley (pictured left)  gave Ilkeston the lead after 12 minutes but North Ferriby equalised through Gary Bradshaw on 65 minutes.

Next week Ilkeston Town take a break from league when they travel to Woodley Sports in the FA Trophy. The kick off is at 1pm due to England playing Wales at 3pm. The game will be screened live at the New Manor grouns and if you get there early you will be able to take in the reserves as well.

 

Chris Freestone on loan at Ossett Town scored  in a 1-0 victory at Blyth Spartans. Ex Robin Aaron O'Connor netted for Gresley Rovers  in their 2-2 draw against Hucknall Town and Chris Bettney, Emeka Nwadike and John Knapper were all on target as Alfreton Town crushed Matlock Town 5-0.
