Ilkeston's Mew Manor Ground pitch was causing concern after the recent heavy rain. The state of the playing surface was not helped by the fact a youth team played on it on Friday night. Officials are confident the pitch will be playable for the visit of local rivals Heanor Town on Tuesday night in the Derbyshire Senior Cup. It is expected that Phil Stant will put out a his strongest available team.

GLOUCESTER TOO GOOD FOR ILSON

6th December  2003

Ilkeston Town found Gloucester City much too hot to handle as the visitors romped to a 3-0 win. Ilkeston did help them on their way with a gift of two goals after 21 minutes but Gloucester could well have scored a few more.

On a brighter note the gate of 364 was higher than our more successful local rival Alfreton Town who could only muster 314 for their home defeat against lowly Frickley Athletic.

Ex Robin Christian Moore became the FA Cup hero of the second round when he scored a hat trick for Telford United in their 3-0 win over Brentford. Moore joined Telford  from Burton Albion for £20,000 six weeks ago. Interviewed on Radio 5 Moore summed up his career as starting out at Leicester City before dropping down to non league football and then signing for Telford United. In fact Christian started out at Noel Baker School in Derby (Same year as David Holmes and Justin O'Reilly) and then he was a trainee at Leicester City before playing one game for Stockport County. He then played for Nuneaton Borough, Gresley Rovers, Belper Town, Sandiacre Town, Forest Green Rovers, Ilkeston Town and Burton Albion.

Other ex Robins in the news include Andy Todd who scored for Worksop, Micheal Sisson who netted for high flying Matlock Town and Leon Kelly who claimed a goal for Worcester City. And finally Justin Jackson has been sacked by Accrington Stanley after to failure to attend training.

Loan signings David Coulson and Darren Horrigan have returned to Lincoln City so ex Alfreton town keeper Ross Turner is likely to get a run in the side.

Liam Walshe and Paul Eshelby have both joined Ilkeston since the last WhiteBallProject  news report. Paul is well known to the NMG faithful and was a big crowd favourite in his last spell. He marked his comeback with a stunning goal against cirencester. Liam Walshe is an ex Lincoln City trainee who has also played for Gresley Rovers, Burton Albion and Belper Town.

Ilkeston Town have been  drawn at home to Heanor Town in the Derbyshire Senior Cup. The game will take place on Tuesday16th December with a 7.30pm kick off.

TEAM BATH CLEAN UP AS ILSON GO DOWN AGAIN

8th November  2003

Ilkeston Town were unable to end their miserable run of form and went down 2-1 at students Team Bath. Manager Phil Stant however has been busy signing no less than four more players since the last game against Rugby United. Graham Lewis aged 21 and born in Reading has had League experience at Lincoln City after starting out at Reading and also played for Frickley Athletic, Goole AFC, Northwhich Victoria and Lincoln United. David Jervis aged 21 made 30 appearnaces for Mansfield Town before being released by Keith Curle. Born in Worksop he then joined Gainsborough Trinity. Mick Lyons is the brother of ex Robin Pat Lyons and an ex Derby County trainee. He has also played for Hinckley United and Mickleover Sports. John Burns has played for Burton Albion in the Conference and is an ex Nottingham Forest trainee.

Ex Robins in the news include David Holmes who has left Worcester City joined the Ilson Old Boys club at Alfreton Town after a spell on loan at Halesowen Town. Notts County keeper Saul Deeney who had a loan spell at the NMG under John McGinlay has been on trial at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

OUT OF YET ANOTHER CUP BUT NEW FACES PROMISE

28th October  2003

Ilkeston Town bowed out of the Dr Martens League Cup losing 2-1 to Rugby United. This must be seen as some progress as Rugby beat us 4-0 only a number of weeks back. NO INSTANT CURE FOR STANT AS ILSON GO DOWN

25th October  2003

Ilkeston Town started life under new boss Phil Stant much as they finished life under former boss Charlie Bishop with a home defeat against team they could easily have beat. Swindon Supermarine won 1-0 with a penalty from Giles Harris. Phil Stant introduced two debutants in loan signings Darren Horrigan and David Coulson from Lincoln City and came on himself after 10 minutes making him probably the oldest player ever to play for the Robins. Strangely enough when the game kicked off we believe Chris Thompson was the oldest player in the team at about 22.

Fabian Smith (pictured left) has returned from Eastwood Town having only signed for them last week. Alex Callery has joined Belper Town on loan and scored on his debut and ex Robin James Rowe was again on the scoresheet for Histon in the FA Cup.

STANT IS THE NEW BOSS AS BISHOP BOWS OUT

23rd October  2003

Ilkeston Town have appointed Phil Stant as their new manager after Charlie Bishop was relieved of his duties. Assistant Manager Phil Towle has also left as Stant is expected to bring in his own team of coaches. Bishop's fate was probably sealed by the recent run of poor form and in particular Tuesday's lethargic performance against Stourport Swifts when Ilkeston lost 3-1.

BISHOP RINGS THE CHANGES AS ILSON GET POINT

18th October  2003

Mark Hurst and Andy Jones have joined on loan from Mansfield Town and Chris Shaw has signed from Hucknall Town. Andy Love has left the club and therefore veteran keeper Paul Reece (left) is now first choice custodian.

Ex Robin Christian Moore has surprised the non league world by signing for Telford United for a £20,000 fee. Burton Albion could not match the offer of full time football that the 30 year old forward had received from Telford. Moore whose contract was up at the end of the season at Burton left Ilkeston in similar circumstances over three years ago.
