Marc Laws gives chase Ilkeston celebrate Andy Evans gets high

Ilkeston Town gave loan signing Gavin Smith (pictured left) his debut. Signed from Worksop this week he slotted in on the right hand side of midfield. Although the Robins were looking to record their first home league win since September it was the visitors Team Bath who had the first real chance. Fortunately for Ilkeston Ross Turner was in fine form. Both teams were having problems with a slippy pitch and the driving rain but after 15 minutes Ilkeston took the lead. Marc Laws attacked Team Bath down the left and his cross fell to Gavin Smith who picked his spot from six yards out.

The Robins almost went 2-0 up when Michael Lyons dribbled past several defenders before narrowly shooting wide. Ilkeston continued to push forward but on 28 minutes after a fine run by Marc Laws Team Bath recovered the ball and passed the ball the length of the field before the impressive Luke Prince coolly beat the onrushing Ross Turner to equalise.

The goal galvanised the visitors and with their new found confidence they began to dominate the game.

On 52 minutes they went ahead when a corner found Andy Tilson unmarked in the six yard box and he scored with an easy header.   Minute later Luke Prince again broke clear and should have scored but Ross Turner made another excellent block.

Ilkeston were finally stung into action and after 59 minutes Marc Laws hit a post with a header from a Liam Walshe free kick. Then Aaron O'Connor headed a Liam Walshe corner back across the goal only for Andy Evans to head straight at the keeper. Ilkeston's best chance however fell to Aaron O'Connor after Marc Laws shot across the face of the goal. O'Connor completely miscued his attempted shot and the Team Bath goal survived. In fact visitors themselves almost got a third when Luke Prince again got clear and his intelligent lob beat the keeper but floated just wide of the post.

WhiteBallProject Man of the Match - Liam Walshe - (pictured below left)  - A very industrious performance particularly as he had to also fill the shoes of the departed John Burns. Narrowly pipped Marc Laws and Ross Turner.

Post Mortem

Ilkeston Town badly needed a win today. Firstly to break their appalling run of home form. The Robins have not now won since an excellent win over Sutton Coldfield Town in September but more importantly the three points would have kept alive the hopes of a top seven finish.

As it transpired Team Bath were worthy winners and could and probably should have won by more. After conceding an early goal they dominated the game with their slick passing and eager movement up front. The tactic of playing one up front so successful away from has yet to prove fruitful at home. Ilkeston looked weak and painfully slow in defence when they are pushing forward. I am sure Manager Phil Stant may consider a change of tactics for Ilkeston's next home game.
